Final Blog Post

This has been such an amazing experience. I am truly going to miss these kids. I have personally grown as a teacher and person. Through this chance I had to work under a fantastic teacher; and get the chance to spend time with these lovely kids. I still have a long way to go, but can not wait until I have a classroom of my own. I hope that these 4th graders were able to grow and learn from my lessons. Most of all I hope that they have been enlightened within the arts, and are inspired to develop their creativity further.  The arts are slowly fading and becoming a thing of the past. I encourage everyone to express their creativity in one way or another even if it is through drawing stick figures.

Road Trip Through Utah and Map Illustrations

Standard 1
Objective 1
Use value, color, and texture to create interest.

The 4th graders were still working on their road trip through Utah project. So i decided to have them create a piece of art that can coincide with their project. The following pictures were my inspirations.

I then Showed the kids an example of what their final products may look like.
They completed these works of art by:
First tracing a piece of a utah map that happened to be their favorite.
Second they made a list of things that represented either that county or utah to them.
Third they drew these symbols using only black and white to create contrast.
     Here are their final pieces

In the end the kids loved their maps and were able to complete two art projects for their road trip project.

Bernoulli Experiments and Bernoulli Books

This week the kids where learning about Bernoulli and conducted different experiments. I decided it would be a good exercise and a fun project to make Bernoulli experiment books.

I first showed them examples of different illustrations that are used for science text books and experiments. We then discussed how to draw something so you could understand the experiment step by step.

Then we Made these books using instructions

This is my final example of the book, unfortunately i did not get pictures of the kids books.

Valentines Day Concepts Of Design

We first discussed what illustrators do. Then went deeper into concepts of design and how we have talked before about creating space and designing so it is appealing to the eye and flows across the page.
I then asked the kids to make valentines day cards for someone of their choosing by using these concepts we had previously learned.

This ended up being a very enjoyable class and a good break. Not to mention the kids cards were highly entertaining.

Lesson #3 Comic Book Strips and Writing Techniques

First we discussed what writing styles were used in these calvin and hobes comics
Then we talked about how illustrators use different characters and faces to portray different emotions

Here are the final products I really enjoyed what these kids created. Super funny kids with huge imaginations, even if sometimes they may be a bit warped haha

Properties of Space Lesson #2

Before teaching this lesson I was informed that the 4th graders were planning a road trip. For this road trip they were to each pick a county and map out how long it would take, how much it would cost, and how all of the places they would visit. I then took this concept and decided to teach a lesson on space. As a end result the kids would take these concepts, and draw a road with scenery representing their county.
I first started the lesson by teaching these different concepts. Overlapping, Placement, Size, Detail, and Vanishing points/horizon lines.

Then I handed out a painting to each table along with the following handout as a guide to analyze the painting and how it uses these concepts. After they were done one person from each group came up to share and discuss with the class.

The following picture is an example for their final product, I gave them specific instructions to use each concept and also make a list of things that are in their counties that they could include. In the end the kids enjoyed the project and gained a new understanding of space and how to create it in their own art. Also they were able to further understand and visualize their county.

1st Lesson with Water Color and Newtons Laws

My first lesson was based around Newtons Three Laws. I incorporated it by using watercolor techniques. The students understood it and thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Here are some pictures of my lesson plan/ hand outs and of the kids themselves :)

After they experimented with the paint we had a discussion concerning Newtons Laws.

Here is one of the final pieces.
